Formula One former champion John Surtees OBE is preparing to drive a sports car through the Channel Tunnel on November 17 as part of the 37th annual Beaujolais Burlington Run.

1964 F1 World champion John Surtees will become the first person to ever drive a sports car the full length of the Channel Tunnel.

Surtees, the only driver to have become world champion on two wheels and four, will pilot the ground-breaking Ginetta G50EV - a stunning electric sports car prototype made by iconic British car marque Ginetta.

It is the first time Eurotunnel has opened its service tunnel to allow a car to drive the full 31 mile length from England to France and it is being done in celebration of the 15th anniversary of the opening of the Tunnel and on the occasion of the 37th annual Burlington Beaujolais Run.

Surtees is due to set off from Folkestone at 11.15 am and arrive in Coquelles, France  an hour and a quarter later.
