Lydd airport axes jobs

Lydd airport on Romney Marsh is cutting jobs over what it claims are uncertainties over its expansion plans.

As part of a “restructuring programme” six posts will be going.

Controversial plans for a new 500,000-passenger terminal and 444-metre runway extension are before Shepway District Council but a long-awaited planning meeting to make a decision has been delayed four times, with the latest hold up due to Lydd Airport's new managing director Jonathan Gordon wanting more time to study paperwork.

The meeting is now not expected to be held until February or March 2010.

Mr Gordon reportedly said the restructuring would not affect the airport's operational capability.
