Shop staff and Post Offices in South Kent are being advised to be wary of anyone asking to change bank notes.

It follows an incident at a Post Office in Folkestone where a man entered and handed staff a bundle of £10 notes and asked them to change them into £20 notes.

When he was given the £20 notes he confused staff by saying that he wanted 20 pence pieces and not notes. He then gave only half the £20 notes back to staff and had left with a stolen profit, before staff had a chance to realise.

This happened in Folkestone on Monday 19 October. The offender is described as a man of Asian appearance.

Kent Police are advising cashiers to check change thoroughly and to beware of anyone trying to distract or confuse them.
