A 49-year-old man from Ipswich was arrested after driving a car that collided with a pedestrian near the Tesco superstore in Cheriton, on Monday afternoon (26 October).

Police were called at 12.25pm following reports that a 61-year-old local man had been hit by a car on the crossing near the Tesco entrance and was suffering head injuries.

He was treated at the scene by an off-duty police officer and later taken to hospital and kept in overnight for observations.

The driver of the car was arrested for driving without due care and driving on a provisional licence. He has been released on bail while officers make further enquiries.
