A pub near Folkestone Harbour has had conditions put on its licence to make the area around the pub safer.

Gillespie’s was taken to a review hearing by Kent Police following incidents involving serious disorder such as alcohol-related violence and anti-social behaviour.

The review committee which is made up of Shepway District councillors, met on Thursday 22 October and decided to impose the following conditions:

· Off sales of alcohol on Fridays, Saturdays and Bank Holiday Sundays will now be restricted from 10 am to 10 pm.

· Chairs, tables and other furniture will only be provided on the pavement outside only whilst off-sales are permitted at the premises.

Licensing Officer PC Chris Stephens said: “The reason we took Gillespies to a review hearing was to support the licensee in providing a safe environment for his customers and other people in the harbour area at night.

“Since the initial review hearing on 2nd October, there has been a significant reduction in reports of anti-social behaviour from the area and the changes have been largely welcomed.” he added.
