Date fixed for controversial football pavilion plans to be heard by Shepway Council

The date has been set to hear the controversial planning application for a £¾million football pavilion in Hawkinge after the application was called in by a Shepway Councillor.

It is understood the football pavilion application should be going before the Development Control Committee of Shepway Council on 3rd November.

Some local residents were unhappy with the plan and North Downs East Cllr Stuart Peall called in the football club's pavilion application so that the issues including parking and noise could be raised.

Shepway Councillor and Hawkinge resident David Godfrey will be speaking at the meeting in support of the application.

When the planning application went before Hawkinge Parish council in July it was unanimously approved. Council Chairman David Callahan described it as "a very exciting project" and Cllr Tony Hutt admitted: "We can't get a better deal than this."

Hawkinge Football Pavilion

I find it extraordinary that locals would complain about the risk of noise if the new football pavilion was built in Hawkinge.

Don't these people realise that the pavilion will guarantee the survival of the football fields - ensuring this is one piece of land in Hawkinge that can't be developed for housing in the near future !?
