Money could be better spent on railways by re-opening Kent branch lines

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Railways have a bright future, with the East London line extension opening and the other improvements for the 2010 Olympics, not to mention the Cross Channel extension.

Nevertheless plans to invest in electrifying lines in other parts of the country seem to be a massive waste of resources when these areas are serviced completely well by diesel trains.

Would not the money be better spent on re-opening some of the branch lines closed many years ago, as now many of these areas where these lines were closed, are much more built up and are in desperate need of train services.

Parts of Kent, Norfolk, Somerset and Devon would benefit greatly from this investment.

In addition some of this money should be used in improving commuter trains into London, with longer trains and platform extensions being the main priority.

Regards

Mr D.Wiffen
