Shepway Council 'stuffed' over parking availability signs and more.....

Football Pavilion plans called in

The decision to call in plans for the long awaited and long fought after Football Pavilion could put the whole project in jeopardy so I hear.

Apparently grants, could become unavailable if the plans are delayed.

Obviously residents must be able to question the plans but as I understand it, the objections over parking would not affect any villagers, as access is only from Incinerator Road and the building has a car park adjacent to it.

I agree the 85sq metre function/meeting room could be considered large enough for a small social gathering, although with just a small kitchen, no alcoholic bar and only a tea hatch, I can't see people queuing up to hire it, especially when they have the licensed Hawkinge Cricket Club next door or the increasingly popular Hawkinge Community Centre in the centre of the village.

Bobbing across the Channel

I couldn't help smiling when I read this headline  in the Irish Times, 'Cork woman swims English Channel'.

Apparently the woman who lives in Cork in the Republic of Ireland became the first Irish person to swim the English Channel there and back in one go, taking just over 35 hours to complete the challenge, and the Irish Times didn't once mention her bobbing across the Channel.

Emin says U.K. taxes may drive her to France

A new tax rate and the British government’s attitude toward the arts has Margate artist Tracey Emin considering a move across the English Channel.

Emin reportedly told the Sunday Times that she is thinking of a permanent relocation to her home in Provence, France, where she is having a studio built.

Britain's new 50 percent tax rate,  will be imposed next April on those earning more than £150,000 a year.

After two years, why is it Folkestone's Parking Availability Signs still don't work?

The simple answer is, they don't have an aerial!

Liberal Democrat Councillor Tim Prater was told by Shepway District Council that the parking availability signs around Folkestone Town Centre, which were installed some years ago but have never been switched on, do not work due to "someone not specifying to the construction team that an aerial was supposed to go up on site during the construction phase of the project".

Shepway Council claim they are still trying to get the system working, but it has proved difficult as "all of the staff who were working on the contract have left their respective companies."
