A burglar who netted £½ million over a number of years was caught after stealing jewellery and cash from a Shepway home reports The People.

Police were taken on a tour of homes by the burglar who had looted them of £500,000 over a 10-year period.

The man, Andrew MacDonald carried out a total of 236 raids.

He was finally caught last year when he stole jewellery and cash worth £7,000 from a home in Hythe.

MacDonald, 28, admitted all the other break-ins and even took police to the properties he'd plundered.

Last week he was jailed for six years at Maidstone Crown Court.

Judge Philip Statman told MacDonald, from Finchley, north London: "I had in mind a sentence in the region of 11 years but I am going to reduce it to reflect your guilty pleas and your honesty with the authorities."
