Tit Bits

Power cuts in dim village

Voltage fluctuations and power cuts in the village remind me of the so called 'winter of discontent', except we did at least know when the power was going off in those days - but I still managed to get stuck on the 24th floor of my office block more times than I want to admit.

One thing we didn't have to worry about were microwave cookers, which when running on reduced voltage, as we have been recently, don't cook as quickly and possibly not as safely as they should. I have even been told of people buying new ones because they thought their perfectly serviceable microwave was not cooking properly. I wonder if they could claim against the energy company.

Movement on the employment land

Do my eyes deceive me or is there really some work starting on the employment land next to Lidl's?

I watch with interest.

Whatever next?

There's a Pool Table in the foyer at the Community Centre as well as football in the sports hall!

Have the new trustees, or are they directors, gone mad?

Toucan crossings on Spitfire Way

I must admit to not knowing what a Toucan Crossing was before they were installed on Spitfire Way.

It is described as the Toucan (two can cross) crossing and is designed to be a shared crossing for pedestrians and cyclists. The point is that they show a red light to stop motorists so that walkers and cyclists can cross in safety.

Unfortunately I have been told of cases where motorists are failing to stop, making them possibly more dangerous than not having one at all.

Farewell to the Hawkinge Partnership

Its not down to the credit crunch but I hear the Hawkinge Partnership will soon be departing from the cabin next to Tesco.

I understand they will be concentrating there efforts in the Folkestone East area.
