Folkestone Camera club

By Jenny Barraclough

Folkestone Camera Club celebrates its centenary this year as it has been running since 1908 with just two short breaks for the two world wars.

Members and visitors at the 'Welcome Evening'

Monday 1st September was the start of the Folkestone Camera Club new season, which was good to see our friends, old and new, as we welcomed several new members.

Our ‘Welcome Evening’ was an opportunity to find out about our activities including competitions, exhibitions, battles, outings, workshops, portraiture, lectures, audio visual etc. Our members were answering many questions and enquiries and offering assistance, from potential new members.

Our club has become very successful, and with the introduction of Digital cameras we have grown in number and success stories, both for the club and individuals. Although we hear of some other Camera Clubs folding or struggling to keep up membership, we have increased ours by many in recent years.

Among our successes last season we now have, among our members, A.R.P.S., L.R.P.S., C.P.A.G.B., and D.P.A.G.B. award and competition winners of acceptances and prizes, we are without a doubt among the top clubs in Kent now, not only for our members personal achievements but also as a club. We won several Battles with other clubs last season.

Many of our members photographs, can be viewed on our website at www.folkestonecameraclub.co.uk

If you have ever come along to our club and, been disappointed with that evenings presentation, do please come and ‘try us again’.

Our programme covers many aspects of photography and we try to suit everyone's taste and ability Our motto is ‘We don’t Teach, But You Learn’. The Programme can be viewed on our website.

Our meetings are held in St. Georges Church, Audley Road (on the corner of Shorncliffe Road, opposite West Station), Folkestone every Monday September to May at 7.45 p.m. Further information can be found on our website or telephone Jenny Barraclough (Press Officer) 01303 245399.
