Nuclear compared with wind power

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Re: Wind turbines construction completed

Recently (17 September) British Energy gave a presentation to Shepway District Council. They told us that a single reactor would produce up to 1650 megawatts and have an operational life of 60 years. Dungeness is one of the sites being considered for such a reactor.

What a contrast with the power output from the very large wind turbines on the Marsh of less than 60 megawatts. The wind turbines will also need to be taken down in 20 years time.

We need affordable and secure power sources for the UK, The government has dithered for too long about an energy policy.

British Energy thought they might be able to submit a planning application in 2010 to open a reactor by 2018. Wind power hardly seems likely to fill the gap.
