The suspect, believed to be in his 30s was arrested after police surrounded the £325,000 home in an exclusive new-build executive estate.

Kent Police said the suspect was detained on suspicion of "being engaged in the commission, preparation or instigation of an act of terrorism".

The man, who has not been named, is being questioned at a police station in the county under the Terrorism Act 2000, said a Kent Police spokesman.

Inquiries were being focused on a house in a quiet cul-de-sac on a modern housing estate which was cordoned off by police tape as two officers stood guard.
