Car hijacking

Following recent 'spoof' emails that have circulated warning people of car hijacking, the fear of crime has been put into the forefront of people's minds unnecessarily.

Car hijacking is very rare and is not a problem here in Kent.

However I would advise that if people are worried about this for any reason whilst out driving, they should consider the following.

Firstly, before setting off, do not leave handbags, briefcases, laptops, or other valuables on show.

Consider locking the doors whilst driving in unknown areas.

When filling up your car at a petrol station, make sure you lock the doors and leave it secure whilst you go to pay.

The same applies if you're quickly stopping off to pick up a paper or milk.

When parking your vehicle in the town centre, park in a busy place where you can been seen and are not alone - better still look out for the Safer Parking - Park Mark sign, which is a security approved parking facility.

Whilst it is important to be vigilant, remember Kent is a safe place to live, work and visit.
