Football club article - 'puts parish council to shame'

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Re: Parish council puts record straight over football ground

Why did you think it right to publish your article 'Parish Council Put Record Straight Over Football Ground', when you had not approached the football club concerned and asked for their side of the story?

I can assure you that it makes very interesting telling and puts Hawkinge Parish Council to shame.

I speak as a complete outsider who, by chance, has watched with admiration as, over the last two years, various members of the Hawkinge community have devoted their precious spare time to ensure that the youth of Hawkinge have somewhere to go other than the streets and something to focus on other than causing trouble.

What have the Parish Council done?

Very little except stand in the way of genuine community progress.

Please, please do not piecemeal accept the Parish Council's version of events but speak to the people who have worked so hard to provide important facilities for the village's children.

I am horrified at Hawkinge Parish Council's gall.

They should be there for the community not against it.

Anne McGrath

Editor's reply

The article which appears on the Gazette website is a bulletin published by Hawkinge Parish Council  and was included  for public information only. It was not written by The Hawkinge Gazette and Channel Coast News.

If the Gazette had written a story about the statement, we would have asked the Hawkinge Youth Football Club if they would like to make a response which could be included in the story.

However, in this case, the Football Club can do what any other reader can do, and write to me. The reply would be published provided it meets the criteria set out in the Gazette Site Policy on the Privacy Policy page
