Health trust bosses have told a public meeting that funding for a community hospital in Dover has risen from £8 million to £18 million and they are hoping to bring back a wide range of services to the new facility.

At a meeting in Dover Town hall last week East Kent Hospitals NHS Trust director of estates, Howard Jones said that funding between £12 million and £18 million would be spent on the project.

Although a new building in Maison Dieu Road is preferred, Mr Jones admitted it had not been confirmed. A site in Whitfield is favoured by some campaigners.

The hospital could be completed by 2011.
