Schu, two Fiats and a garage door in Romney Marsh prang

He’s bashed wheels with the best of them and more often than not come out on top.

But the seven-time F1 world champion Michael Schumacher met his match on Sunday while driving near Lydd, on his way to catch a private jet at the nearby airport, with a prang involving a garage door, after overtaking two old ladies who were on their way to bingo.

Schumaker was driving a Fiat Ducato van when he pulled an overtaking manoeuvre on the pensioners, who were also in a Fiat – whereupon he had a coming together with a garage door which, only in an English village, was in the middle of the road.

The elderly ladies, Schumacher, both Fiats and the door were okay, although the man with the door, one Martin Kingham, did suffer a bit of a sore knee in the shunt.

According to the Daily Mail, Mr Kingham said: “The old ladies were probably only doing 30mph and he fancied his chances.

“I guess it shows – once a racing driver, always a racing driver.”

You just couldn’t make it up.
