It may be a bit late, but summer has finally come for channel swimmer and number one fan of the area, Peter Jurzynski who arrived from his American home yesterday (31 July).

Peter annual visit was delayed after having to undergo heart surgery on 28 May, but he is now back in England and eager to meet his old friends in Folkestone and Hawkinge once again.

"My spirit is lifted every visit here since 1985. This is the first visit without my intention of swimming the channel which in a sense gives me a chance to meet my friends of many years.

"Actually I will be doing a a lot of walking beyond 2 hours a day - and later in the month possibly a dip at the sports centre.

"There will be no sea swimming yet, but I do intend to attempt the channel again in 2009.

"The most important thing to me is just being in this channel coastal area" he said.

Peter Jurzynski has been here every summer except 1991 since 1985.

"There is a song 'I left my heart in San Francisco' to me it should be 'I left my heart in Folkestone' -  that is why I am here in Folkestone once again"  Peter mused.
