Police community support officers (PCSOs) in Folkestone are heading for the beach this Sunday (27 July) for a Safer Summer roadshow.

PCSOs Janet Rumley and Karen Tappenden will be taking the mobile police station to Sunny Sands in Folkestone between 10.00am and 4.00pm.

They will be giving away Kent Police promotional freebies and Safer Summer information leaflets and available to talk to if people need advice about crime prevention.

They will also be offering free security marking to anybody who brings their valuables like bikes, mobile phones, sat navs, MP3 players, cameras, and so on.

Having valuables security-marked is helpful as it acts as a deterrent and makes it easier for police to identify the rightful owners if property is lost or stolen.

Folkestone Coastguards will also be at the Sunny Sands with information and hand-outs to promote beach safety.

The Kent Police Safer Summer initiative runs until the start of September and is focusing on three main seasonal issues:

Burglary from the home; Theft from cars at beauty spots and staying safe when socialising.

Research into crime figures show that these three issues feature more prominently in the summer months but can be prevented if people are aware and take action to avoid becoming a victim of crime.

PCSO Rumley said: "We're looking forward to meeting people at the sunny sands hope the weather is kind to us. Anyone is welcome to bring an item to be security marked absolutely free."
