Neighbourhood Watch have reported that in the past couple of weeks a number of hanging baskets, potted planters and garden ornaments have been stolen from gardens in the Hawkinge area.

These thefts have usually taken place overnight and possibly after midnight.

There is not a great deal of crime prevention advice that can be offered as planters are designed as mobile items around the garden, but the outside edge of both planters and hanging baskets could contain plants from the thistle family which would make it uncomfortable to lift and remove.

With hanging baskets make sure that that the hook eyes are closed more than you would normally have so that lifting them down would be difficult.

If possible install PIR lighting that covers the garden.
