Callous thieves steal children's bikes at school fundraising fayre

Staff, guests, parents and children enjoyed three hours of summer fayre at The Churchill School on Saturday 5th July hosted by the fundraising charity "The Churchill Challenge" to raise money for the children.

But, during the fayre, thieves stole three children's bikes from the bike racks in the school grounds.

The summer fayre ran from 12 until 3pm on Saturday 5th July during a very hot and sunny period.

The school and parents are helping police with their enquiries. All would like to see the bikes returned to the three distraught children who have had their bikes stolen.

The alleged three male thieves are thought to be aged 14-15, entered the school by the gate nearest to Lidl at 12:28. All  went to the basketball goal by the reception class fence and each scored imaginary basketball goals. They were near a big red fire engine which was parked on the main playground.

The first bikes were stolen at 12.45pm, and the final bike belonging to a 4-year-old was stolen at 1.06 pm.

The boys were seen in Waddington Drive between these times, and cycled off along Haven Drive toward the village green where they were seen again.

If anyone can help identify the boys, please contact Folkestone police station 01303 850055 or the school business manager 01303 893892.

The sight of a teenager riding a bike made for a 4-year-old is a particularly sad and unusual sight.

Although the boys spent a lot of time looking at the bike racks, identifying unlocked bikes and acting nervously as approximately 50 people passed them whilst they were waiting to steal the bikes, they appear to have missed lots of very large CCTV warning signs.

The signs are located near cameras that work, are in colour, and record as well.

The CCTV images have been passed to Folkestone police, so we now need as many witnesses to identifying these thieves as possible please.

Even if these boys have not stolen before, they may steal again from our community.
