It is hoped that the fortunes of the Hawkinge Community Centre could soon be on the up after new trustees were elected at the Annual General Meeting held on Saturday evening.

The meeting on 28 June saw members of the charity vote in five new trustees plus the former chairman of trustees John Heasman to the new board. Parish councillor, Colin Tearle, who is the council's nominated representative for the charity takes his seat as a non elected trustee.

Immediately after the AGM, the new trustees wasted no time in convening their first meeting to put in place a series of measures to facilitate the smooth transition of powers.

Tony Hutt has accepted the role of interim chairman and Colin Tearle is the temporary treasurer.

Mr Tearle said: "Although there has been a change in the structure, the board does not propose to make any short term changes.

"We need to take careful stock of the situation we have inherited before we will be able to make any long term strategic decisions."

The new Trustees/Directors are as follows, David Callahan, David Godfrey, John Heasman, Tony Hutt, Joe McEnroe, Terry Scott and Colin Tearle.
