Huge areas of Shepway could be lost to the sea by the end of the century warns the World Development Movement (WDM) which has published a shocking new map and data, showing the very real affect that climate change could have in Kent.

The research shows that an arc encompassing Romney Marsh from Hythe to Winchelsea could be below sea level within 80 years.

Other areas of Kent likely to suffer include most of the Hoo peninsula, parts of the Medway Towns, the Isle of Sheppey and the coast between Ramsgate and Deal including much of Sandwich.

The WDM warns that there are currently around 44,000 properties in Kent at risk of coastal flooding, and a further 26,000 from rivers flooding.

We know about rising sea levels, the coast underwater between Hythe and Winchelsea, Err doesn't this include Dungeness nuclear power station ?

Good point, Handyman.

In view of the new evidence, the future of the nuclear facility should be questioned. Any new reactors built on the site would appear to be at risk of flooding as are the present reactors, one of which is to be de-commissioned
