Two teenagers were arrested after they shouted racist abuse at Gurkha soldiers serving with Prince Harry's former battalion.

The incident, involving soldiers from the Royal Gurkha Rifles, took place in Folkestone, last Friday (13 June).

The two, aged 17 and 19, allegedly insulted the Nepalese men with taunts of “go home” near their barracks, and has caused outrage among local councillors.

Shepway councillor Peter Carroll called the behaviour 'despicable', adding: 'Young people should worship the ground the Gurkhas walk on because they have done so much for Britain.'

Councillor Dhan Gurung added: 'Things like this shouldn't be happening.' Prince Harry served with the Gurkhas in Afghanistan before his recall earlier this year.'

The teenagers were later freed on bail.
