Villagers whingeing about the council could soon fall silent after a recent audit has confirmed that Hawkinge Parish council is now heading in the right direction and the results of major expansion begin to take effect.

Last year saw a major re-think in the way the parish council conducted its business, and as a result, the Internal Audit carried out recently is now showing the benefits.

The report has noted that records are kept to a good standard and the council's approach to the management of risks is sound.

It went on to say: "Good systems have been put into place which will give the council a strong foundation upon which to build which will be very important over the next few years as the results of major expansion in the village begin to take effect and the parish council responds."

The report has also drawn to the parish council's attention the way it handles its considerable assets.

Two particular items have been highlighted for review; the Sports Ground and the Village Hall. As a result, the council's finance committee have already begun the process.

Cllr Colin Tearle, the new Chairman of the Finance and General Purposes Committee said: "It will be my role to help build on the solid foundations that have been laid during the past year."
