Following an armed robbery at Sainsbury's in Park Farm, Folkestone, Kent Police is appealing for witnesses.

In the raid on Thursday (8 May) at around 4.20pm, a security guard was approached by a man as he entered the store's main entrance. The man is alleged to have had a dark coloured handgun and made threats to the guard before stealing a cash box.

Members of the public chased the man who got into a silver Audi A4 saloon car. The car drove off at speed before being abandoned in Belinda Court, Folkestone.

The cash box was discarded after the security dye pack was activated. The red or orange dye would have contaminated skin and clothes of anyone handling it. The cash was abandoned in the security box after the dye pack exploded.

No one suffered physical injuries during the robbery and the abandoned vehicle has been recovered for forensic examination.

The man is described as white, of medium build and height, believed to be in his twenties and wearing a grey hooded top and dark glasses.

Officers are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or to anyone who may have further information which may help the investigation.
