Village's new road layout is a mish-mash

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Seeing the new road lay-out in action, I wonder if others share my concerns.

Yes, there is less traffic in the village, but not noticeably less than before the works and post by-pass opening.

If you doubt me, sit on the Canterbury Road around about the Health Centre between 7-9 am and watch.

Less traffic, but now able to go faster, as they try to steal a march on those on the by-pass. This is human nature. This must be one of the few villages that it is possible to go through faster than when using a by-pass.

The lay-out at Aerodrome Road is a puzzle. Will anyone, either after negotiating the northern gateway, or coming out of The Street, choose to go down Aerodrome, when it is quicker to slip through the village?

Why also is there no restriction on HGV's? Access only for these would be a good start. At present, it's a mish-mash.

I smell the work of a committee behind this

Dear Ed,

I do believe that a few of us, more sceptical (shall we say) residents did point out the drawbacks of the (then) proposed road layout.

It is a real pity, as well as being a huge disappointment and a vast waste of rate payers' money.

One is reminded of the definition of a camel, a horse designed by a committee! I really do smell the work of a committee behind this one.
