Where is this big drop in village crime to be found?

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Re: Big drop in Hawkinge crime

Ms Coleman needs to get out and about a bit more.

There is much to be done concerning speeding motorists, motorists using hand-held mobile telephones, the persistent spread of litter by (probably a great proportion of) the general public, illegal parking, dog fouling and much much more....

Is crime in village too difficult to deal with?

Or, are these matters too difficult to deal with?

It has been reported previously that KCC Warden has allegedly ignored vehicles illegally parked in the bus stop in spite of the great amount of publicity that was given to what was intended to be a clamp down on such practices and it is no surprise that such matters mentioned above receive scant attention.

Pick up some kudos from going around with eyes, ears and mouth closed and all is well.

Whilst agreeing with Lazarus, I must note that the lady Coleman ain't no Copper & as such her "executive powers" are limited. No power of arrest for a start.

She "may" be able to tackle matters by means of fixed penalty Notices(tickets) for certain offences. But I doubt she can proceed by way of Summons in others.

There maybe a power to detain but not to arrest which defeats the power of detaining., given the very small amount of actual Police Officers, with their appropriate powers, that police the whole Borough of Shepway in any given 8 hour period.

An average of 6 to 10..yes 6 to 10, Warranted Officers on Duty for the whole of Shepway.

As was mooted by the Police Federation at the time of introducing "Blunkets Bobbies" (PCSOs) & indeed with an assortment of Wardens it is Policing on the cheap. Have no doubt of that. And you get what is paid for.

No offence towards PCSO Coleman & the enthusiasm she may have for her task or indeed to the Warden imposed by the Civil Authority, but Coppers they ain't & they cannot enforce matters

Our anointed & appointed P.C. has had his geographical area of responsibility greatly extend & is therefore extremely limited to what attention he can give this township.

A sad comment on what passes for Society's attitudes today. Just look at the state of the feral Under Classes that prowl the streets & the attitudes of what passes as their Sires & Dames.

Putting the record straight

I must put the record straight that Sally Coleman is the Parish & NHW Liaison Officer.

The village PCSO is infact Sarah Wallace who is the Hawkinge community officer.

In addition to the list given by Lazarus I would like to ask what is being done about the lorries that park overnight near Lidl's. Some nights there are up to four lorries there and often one or two are parked all weekend !

No action???

While I agree with most of the points raised I see one of the major problems we have in the ever growing Hawkinge is that the teens have nowhere to go and nothing to do, this point has been raised numerous times before on this site and with the PC. There is an ever growing problem with off-road bikes and quads going up and down the roads and across the fields of Hawkinge, groups of people wandering around looking for something to do the PC all complain about them but have never offered them anything else to do.

We have a community centre that they can not use the hall in Areodrome Road left for years by the PC so it is not in a fit state for anything (accept for selling it for housing their favorite option), if they are given nothing to do they will find their own source of entertainment. It is about time they offered them something the playgrounds that are buit are for 10 and under how about opening the community centre up as an internet cafe, it would soon fund its self and they already have the technology.
