50 million fish can die in an hour at Dungeness Nuclear Power Station claims a scientist from Oxford University in a report of nuclear plants in Britain, according to the Practical Fishkeeping website.

The scientist, Dr Peter Henderson, an environmental researcher suggests from data he has compiled that there is more damage to fish numbers from coastal stations than was previously thought.

Dr Henderson suggests the outfall pipes of the Dungeness station on Romney Marsh, where Sprats are known to form huge shoals can be clogged with 250 million dead fish in just five hours.

It is calculated that a figure equalling up to 50% of the number of Herring and Sole caught commercially in the southern North Sea are killed in this way.
