Cannabis with an estimated street value of £635,000 has been seized from a motorhome at Dover's Eastern Docks.

An estimated 300kg of cannabis resin was discovered hidden under a bed after Border Agency officers searched the vehicle on a ferry from France on Saturday (19 April).

Robert Orchard 64, who lives in Malaga, Spain, has been charged with attempting to smuggle drugs into the UK.

His 34-year-old daughter, who was travelling with him was released on bail pending further inquiries.

Carole Upshall, regional director south of UKBA, called the seizure "an excellent result".

Bob Gaiger, spokesman for Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC), said their main priority was reducing the availability of Class A drugs.

"However, we will continue to uphold the law relating to other illegal drugs, including cannabis," he added.
