An elderly man in Folkestone has been tricked into handing over money to men who called at his home pretending to be carpet fitters.

Police report the incidents took place on Wednesday (9 April), in Manor Road, Folkestone and a similar con occurred the same day in Milne Road, Ashford.

In Folkestone, the elderly man was driven to his bank by one of the conmen to withdraw cash. In Ashford, cash was also handed over by an elderly man.

The conmen then left, saying they would come back, but never returned.

Trading Standards have been informed of the incidents, and police urged householders not to enter into any agreements with potentially bogus carpet fitters.
