Delicious chocolate cake for the birthday girls

March saw another well attended meeting at which the President afforded birthday greetings to Mesdames Blanks, Godden and Lamb. Carole also extended condolences on behalf of the WI members to Avis Readman on the recent loss of her husband Guy, we were all very sorry to hear that news.

After being reminded of the “Faversham Visit” (tour of the town and brewery visit) and the forthcoming Annual Council Meeting we sat back and enjoyed a very interesting talk by Allison Ellman-Brown on deafness.

Who could have thought that a guided tour round the outer and inner workings of the ear could be so informative and entertaining? I feel sure that everyone learnt a little more about the causes of deafness and most ladies were going home to urge their partners to take a hearing test! Or were some going to take one themselves?

During social time, when the Birthday Girls, President and Speaker were enjoying the most amazingly delicious looking chocolate cake (did it taste as good ladies?) provided by Christine Wethered a short quiz was handed out.

I don’t know if the quiz was entertaining but when a tie breaker was necessary mayhem broke out and much hilarity ensued. After it was decided to stop answers being shouted out by those not eligible for the tie break by bringing the relevant ladies out to the front, Ann Wilson finally won the day and the quiz! Janet Cripps was the monthly competition winner with her beautiful Easter bonnet – she is obviously very attached to that trophy.

All too soon it was time to sing the National Anthem, say goodbye for another month and wend our way home. Next month will see a different slant on the afternoon as we will have a Members Afternoon (I guess that means lots of talking – lucky ladies) with four of our talented ladies each taking a corner and displaying her craft – with hands on experience for those wishing to “have a go” – at Quilting; Jewellery making; Sugar Craft and, well why not come along and find out for your self?

If you would like to find out more about our WI please phone Carole Seabrook on 891420 or Christine Allard on 863146. We meet in Hawkinge Village Hall, at 2pm on the first Tuesday of the month. The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, 1st April. No April Fools – please.
