Local schoolchildren are making giant strides to improve the Hawkinge environment.

Walk On Wednesday (WOW) aims to encourage primary school children to walk to school which reduces traffic emissions, congestion and promotes road safety.

The Churchill School's Amber class have won a walking bus award for the most children walking to school in the Folkestone area.

There will be a presentation at 11.15am on Wednesday 5th March to the Amber class at the school.

Jennie Carter, head teacher at The Churchill School said: "We are proud to have received this award. The Walk To School initiative makes sense for everyone".

Lee Parslow, chair of the PTA said: "The PTA are aware of the large decrease in car usage, particularly on good weather days, and have pledged to double the size of bicycle racks at the school before the start of the Summer term".
