A Folkestone youth leader has been recognised for his work with air cadets.

Ken Hull has worked with the 40-strong 1921 (Lewisham) Squadron Air Training Corps for more than 40 years and was nominated for the award by the squadron's cadets, for whom he runs a canteen.

Mr Hull was given a Leader Award by the Jack Petchey Foundation, which supports projects for young people aged from 11 to 25.

The awards are given to adult leaders who have demonstrated an outstanding ability to encourage and motivate young people under their control.

76-year-old Mr Hull, who lives in Folkestone, was presented with a certificate and a cheque for £1,000 to spend on squadron projects.

He said: "I am truly touched to receive this award, especially knowing it came from the cadets themselves."
