Re: Anger as Garden Tax bills drop on Shepway doormats 

Shepway`s new recycling `stealth tax` has certainly sparked a debate, and why not, the Government is promoting recycling through our local councils and setting them targets for which they get paid or fined accordingly.

But why is Cllr Love surprised that he and not the Government is having to foot the bill for new lorries when many advised that this scenario invariably always happens with Government led schemes? First seduce the `unwary council` into adopting your policy with cash inducements, then leave them holding the baby.

However what I find difficult to grasp is the council imposed planning restriction on the number of lorries that can visit the garden waste /composting site at Hawkinge. Talk about the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing.

How can our current Shepway councillors possibly be taken seriously when they talk glibly of expanding the service, when they knew at the introduction of the service they could not do it?

With this nonsense taking place, its little wonder the refuse service is once again in crisis.
