Peter Jurzynski of Naugatuck, who trains off the Folkestone and Sandgate coast has sent his medical report  for the 2008 English Channel swim.

This year will be his 19th attempt, and if successful, his 15th success.

Peter is looking forward to "meeting our great folks" in the summer and told the Gazette: "I will be back in lovely Folkestone and Hawkinge in June for training."

Mr. Jurzynski holds the U.S. record for number of swims by an American and was inducted into the International Marathon Swimming Hall of Fame in Ft. Lauderdale three years ago.

Along with British broadcaster Kevin Murphy and retired British scientist Mike Reed, Peter Jurzynski is among very few older world swimmers still competing in Channel swims.

"As the world population grows older, I hope Kevin, Mike and I are positive examples for active older lifestyles," he said.

"More importantly, in a personal way, I hope my international swimming has helped create international good will over nearly a quarter of a century of sharing with people from various cultures and parts of the globe."
