Hawkinge Community Centre will be opening its doors as the base for the Hawkinge IT Café and Homework Club on Tuesday 4th March.

The opening hours for the centre at Heron Forstal Avenue, Hawkinge will be Tuesdays 11.30am to 3.30pm for drop in sessions and 3.30pm to 5.30pm for Homework Club. The facility will also be open on Thursdays from 1.00pm to 4.00pm for drop in sessions and 4.00pm to 7.00pm for Homework Club.

On Mondays from 9.30am to 12.30pm the IT Café will offer a wide range of national vocational qualifications together with fully funded 'taster' and short courses along with bespoke training all delivered in a flexible and supportive environment.

Homework clubs give children and young people the benefits of homework without the rows at home. They make homework enjoyable and give them a better chance of passing exams. They provide a suitable learning environment with appropriate resources and adult help if necessary, and they take the pressure off the parents. They may assist in raising standards for those who need extra support or who find it difficult to do homework at home. As such, they help to bridge the gap between the haves and the have-nots.

The project has been funded by The Hawkinge Partnership with additional support from Hawkinge Community Centre. The IT Café will be managed by staff from The Romney Resource Centre who, over the last fifteen years, have developed an impressive, broad and effective curriculum of educational and learning opportunities through ICT, NVQ and Skills for Life programmes.

Edna Delaney, the Romney Resource Centre Manager said: "It’s a wonderful chance for local people to come along to the centre and experience a friendly and supportive environment and gain some new skills over a cup of coffee”.

You can contact Romney Resource Centre on 01797 367455 to book your place or if you need further information.
