Council's rubbish argument should be binned

Have your say!

Dear Editor,

Re: Last chance to claim discount on garden waste collection scheme

Dear Councillor Love,

I do not want to pay the subscription; I get little enough in the way of services for the inflated charge I already pay.

Additionally, I would remind Cllr Love, and readers of the following:

- In the initial stages of the garden waste bins, when they had run out, it was stated by Shepway District Council that they could not supply anymore bins because the system was already running at full capacity. This lends a lie to the recent statement that "because only 36% of rate payers have bins the service is uneconomic!"

- Which leads me nicely on to another of Shepway's arguments. The claim that the 36% that have the bins are being subsidised by the remaining ratepayers.

Well, I don't have children at school, should I be paying that part of the rates?

On the basis of this reasoning I should not.

What about all those unfortunate people who receive some form of council benefit or another, should I subsidise them?

Once again, based on this reasoning, no I should not.

Yet we know why we are all charged rates - it just seems that Cllr Love does not.

What with the fire service being run down, at a time when there are more houses than ever being built in the district, I just wonder if there are any in Castle Hill Avenue that live in the same world that I do, or maybe they live in far-off places like Devon or Cornwall.

Very grumpily,

Lazarus
