A high flying local football club have achieved prestigious FA Charter Standard Status.

The Hawkinge Youth Football club, based at the parish council sports ground off Cricketers Close in the village were recently given the good news by the Kent FA.

The award is in recognition of the hard work that has gone in to maintaining high standards within the club, along with qualified staff.

Club Chairman, Rob Lawford said: “Achieving this status will be a boost to the club's aims to have new changing rooms built with Football Foundation funding. The Hawkinge Parish Council have already set aside £100,000 for the project.”

The club which has grown to seven youth teams for youngsters up to 14-years-old plans to add up to another four teams next season.

Club development officer Cyril Trice said: “Good changing facilities are needed urgently for this expanding club to comply with all the legislation on child protection, as well as to be able to build girls' teams into the club“.
