Warning that inconsiderate parking could lead to loss of life

NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH - LATEST NEWS

The following  message has been received from the Fire and Rescue Service in Folkestone.

We recognise that parking in some areas of Shepway can be a problem, residents may not have off road parking and the roads are not designed for the number of cars routinely expected to share the available space.

Nevertheless, parking of vehicles impeding the access of emergency fire appliances is becoming a regular problem.

In the circumstances we cannot fail to observe that there is the very real possibility that parking of vehicles inconsiderately could lead to the loss of a life.

We would give the following advice:

a) Fire engines are large vehicles - they need extra room to turn corners and plenty of space between cars parked opposite each other.
b) Residents should obey local parking restrictions.
c) Do not park to close to corners and junctions.
d) Avoid parking opposite other cars in narrow streets.

Where residents see bad parking, it can be reported to the Shepway Community Safety Unit on 01303 858660
