By Cllr Colin Tearle,

Chairman, Hawkinge Parish Council Finance Committee

In recent times, as some of you will know, the Parish Council has undertaken a series of surveys using different methods and events such as the Fun Day to inform itself on what to identify as a priority list to develop as facilities for the village.

At this month's budget meeting held on the 10th December the council identified which projects are to go ahead, and gave approval to the release of funds to affect their delivery using a mixture of existing funds, development money and money from the sale of the Leisuredrome.

  • Providing football-changing facilities.
  • Improvements to lighting and sound-proofing at the Community Centre to enhance sports provision
  • Improvements to the car-park at the village hall.
  • Provision of allotments at Stombers Lane.
  • Provision of a Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) with a possible BMX track.

An additional £100,000 is also available for transport related issues from the development money, which is still to be determined by the Parish Council.

On top of the above there is now the need to identify alternative accommodation for Hawkinge Parish Council since it looks increasing likely that the Partnership Office will close at the end of March 2009 where the Council has its current office.

Notwithstanding the ambitious programme identified above, in setting its Council Tax level for the forthcoming year it managed a cut of £1.13 per property based on Band D.
