Police were called to Kearsney Abbey near Dover on Saturday afternoon (20 December) after reports a 7-year-old boy had been bitten by a dog believed to be a Staffordshire bull terrier.

The boy, who is from Ramsgate, was treated at the Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother hospital in Margate for a laceration to his lip but did not need to be admitted.

After the incident the owner of the dog disappeared but was found by police in Scotland Common.

A 29-year-old man from Whitfield was arrested on suspicion of allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control in a public place.

He has been released on bail until 20 January and the dog has been taken to kennels whilst police make further enquiries.
