American record holding Channel swimmer, Peter Jurzynski has been spending summers in Folkestone for nearly a quarter of a century and has now decided to see what his beloved Folkestone has to offer at Christmas.

Peter, who has just flown in from the States said: "Folkestone has always been a special place for me, but seeing it at Christmas is indeed remarkable.

"The spirit is alive and well here, despite the dire global economy and the precinct is alive with people from early morning to late afternoon.

"My unofficial survey says more people send Christmas cards in Folkestone than anywhere that I know.

"The holiday lights are great but most of all the people are fantastic."

Talking about the weather Peter described it as "interesting".

He explained: "In terms of climate as a summer resident I found the 3.30 darkening of the skies most interesting in mid-December, but my biggest surprise was the relatively mild climate with grass still green.

"When I departed JFK airport in New York City, the British Airways jet needed to be de-iced due to the snow and sleet on December 16.

"Folkestone is great but my only problem is, will Father Christmas find me without snow?

"My hometown in USA has a 6 to 10 inch forecast of snow for today - Folkestone is another Florida in comparison.

"Merry Christmas"
