Motorists in Hawkinge should watch their speed as Police armed with hand-held enforcement cameras will be taking action against drivers flouting the speed limit over the next few weeks.

The neighbourhood policing team in Shepway is also responding to concerns raised by Hawkinge residents about speeding motorists.

Hawkinge PCSO Sarah Wallace using a Speed Indicator Display (SID) will be at various roadside locations with the hi-tech device that shows the speed of each passing vehicle.

The registration details of any vehicle breaking the speed limit will be taken and a letter sent to the owner warning them to keep within the speed limit in future.

If a motorist is repeatedly shown speeding by the SID then enforcement action may be taken against the motorist.

PCSO Sarah Wallace said: "The problem of speeding vehicles has been highlighted by a number of people so we will be using the SID to educate drivers, to raise awareness of their speed and to promote safety on the roads."

"In addition police officers will also be enforcing speeding laws particularly along Canterbury Road and The Street." she added.
