A local cricket club can now battle moss that is growing within their grounds and affecting play, using a £6,500 grant from Kent County Council to purchase specialist equipment.

Elham Valley Cricket Club currently hosts a number of county school matches including the Shepway Secondary Schools Cricket Tournament and the Shepway Primary Schools Kwik Cricket Tournament. With the moss clearing equipment the grounds will be improved and more matches can be scheduled.

The £6,593.26 grant has been awarded through the Kent County Council Small Capital Grant Scheme for Sport that assists the development of sports facilities for Kent communities.

KCC Cabinet Member for Communities, Mike Hill, said: "It is extremely important for Kent County Council to support local sports, particularly in the run up to the London 2012 Olympics. With the new equipment many more young people will now have the opportunity to play cricket in Elham Valley."
