A Shepway woman who tricked victims into making donations to a breast cancer charity and keeping the money herself has been jailed for 14 months.

Jackie Carroll knocked on doors claiming she was taking part in a charity skydive or charity walk for Breast Cancer Care.

Carroll, of Carey Close, New Romney, admitted five charges of fraud by false representation between July and October 2008. She asked for a total of 107 similar offences to be taken into consideration.

Sentencing, Judge James O'Mahony branded her actions "repugnant" in the face of the country's "reputable tradition" of charitable work.

She was given 14-month sentences for each offence to run concurrently.
