A campaign to tackle car crime in South Kent has led to crimes being slashed by almost a half and more than thirty arrests.

Since the beginning of October police have been targeting motor vehicle offences and offenders across the area, which includes Folkestone, Dover, Deal and Ashford.

The campaign was launched after results showed a 30% increase in car crimes in  the Harbour and Harvey Central areas of Folkestone, Buckland in Dover and Willesborough and the Stour ward in Ashford.

Dedicated patrols are using a number of different tactics to prevent and deter offenders. As a result of this operation South Kent has seen a 45% decrease in theft from motor vehicles and a 47% decrease in theft of motor vehicles compared to the month of September.

Officers have also made 32 arrests in connection with motor vehicle offences.

The Operation is continuing throughout November to reduce the crime even further.
