The love and lure of Folkestone will bring long time summer resident and channel swimmer Peter Jurzynski to Folkestone and the channel coast this winter.

Peter, from Naugatuck in the US, visited Folkestone last summer after a successful heart bypass operation in May and re-started his swimming training at the Folkestone Sports Centre in August.

His progress went so well that he has already arranged for a pilot boat to accompany him on his next channel swim in 2009.

He will undergo extensive medical tests in late March and if all goes well, it will be all systems go for his 2009 crossing.

Meanwhile, Peter loves Folkestone so much he will be spending the Christmas and New Year holidays in the town.

"I have been spending the summer months in Folkestone for nearly a quarter of a century and I felt it was about time I spent some time here in winter." Peter said.

Peter, 57, who hopes to retire in the town said: "I can't wait to wish my summer friends a Merry Christmas in person."

He is due to arrive on December 17, just before Santa!
