Folkestone Camera Club meeting - 10 November 2008

On Monday 10th November, we held our 2nd Print competition of the season, judged by Dr Peter Lewis LRPS a very competent and experienced photographer, and he gave us very good comments on how we can improve our photography. He was an excellent judge and gave a wide range of marks out of 20. Winners of each section were as follows:-

OPEN SUBJECT:-

Novice:- River Avon by Chris Willis 20

(6 entries) Water lilies by Ann Shorter 20 Remains of the day Minnis bay by Jan MacKay 18

Intermediate:- Poppy by Les Waters 20

(15 entries) The old kitchen by John Mitchell 19

Advanced:- More of Dungeness by Ron Raybould CPAGB 20

(16 entries) Towards Dunstanburgh castle by Frank Barraclough 20 Hidden cub Botswana by Marie-Laure Stone DPAGB BPE1* 19

PORTRAITS:-

Novice:- Do you like my new hat by David Connell 20

We recently hosted a ‘Battle’ with Gateway (Dover), and Rye Camera Clubs, where prints and slides were selected from each clubs members, and judged by Mr Chris Shore FRPS MPAGB EFIAP BPE4*. We had a very entertaining evening and it is always good to see other clubs work. The final scores were Folkestone and Gateway 347 amd Rye 337. a very close match.

Last week our Audio Visual group met, followed by our Practical evening on 21st. On Monday 17th November we shall be seeing Dr. Peter Brandham, a retired botanist from Kew Gardens, showing us CACTUS COUNTRY – USA”. Peter is a regular visitor to our club and we always have a very enjoyable evening seeing his brilliant photography, and the 24th KEN SCOTT “TOUCHING THE LIGHT”. Author and photographer Ken is driven not so much by place, as by light and atmosphere.


Meetings are held at the St. Georges Church, Audley Road,.
