At the Annual General Meeting of the Hawkinge Community Centre held on 28 June 2008, a new board of trustees/directors were elected to replace the outgoing board of trustees who resigned during the meeting.

Since that time a complete change of direction has taken place.

Behind the scenes lots of work has been done finding out how the centre operates, what is happening in practice, how to stop the financial haemorrhaging of unnecessary money, whilst improving the centres income, cash flow and changing some work practices.

New appointments of a supervisor and company administrator have also been made.

However, as things have progressed it's become apparent that a complete administrative overall is needed for the centre to move forward and operate in the way it was originally planned.

For this to happen, the directors have appointed an independent auditor to start work this week advising on how to move forward so everything is ready for the new financial year.

Together with this, the Parish Council are to make a further £65,000 investment in the building for improvements including better sound-proofing, lighting and the ability for ball games to be played in the sports hall.

The directors/trustees and staff hope that the work they have been doing over the past five months will make for a positive and brighter future and the Community Centre will become the heart of the village for which it was always intended.
